Retailing consists of all activities involved in selling goods and services to consumers for their personal, family, or household use. It covers sales of goods ranging from automobiles to apparel and food products, and services ranging from hair cutting to air travel and computer education. Sales of goods to intermediaries who result to retailers or sales to manufacturers are not considered a retail activity. Importantly, retail sector is highly fragmented with organized retail contributing to small proportion of the total retail sales. The retail industry in India is largely unorganized and predominantly consists of small, independent, owner-managed shops. Retailing is India's largest industry in terms of contribution to GDP and constitutes significantly to GDP. The Indian retail industry has grown significantly. It is likely to greatly impact businessmen, entrepreneurs, investors and to a great extent the real estate sector. The present book deals theoretical retail framework, sales and marketing, retail merchandising, retail logistics and supply chain management. It is expected that the book will be highly useful in understanding the theoretical framework of retail management and revolving the strategies for retailing of goods and services.
